The Heat have had an easy time during the 2013 NBA Playoffs, so you can’t blame Dwyane Wade for taking in a few parties in his down time. On Friday he showed up at Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School’s senior prom with Nicole Muxo, a fan who made a YouTube video asking the All-Star guard to be her date. Of course there are photos.

President Obama Tells Morehouse Graduates To Give Back

ATLANTA (WVEE)-A day of pouring rain, thunder and occasional lightning did not dampen the spirits of five hundred graduates of Morehouse College and their thousands of guests. They were all covered in plastic ponchos to await the message from the commencement speaker, President Barack Obama.

The president’s message to the Morehouse men was one of giving back. Obama said graduates should not be so eager to join the chase for wealth and material things, but instead should remember where they came from and not “take your degree and get a fancy job and nice house and nice car and never look back.”

As he talked about individual graduates who overcame monumental odds to be a member of the Morehouse Class of 2013, Obama told the graduates to get that law degree. “But if you do, ask yourself if the only option is to defend the rich and powerful, or if you can also find to defend the powerless,” Obama said. “Sure, go get your MBA, or start that business, we need black businesses out there. But ask yourself what broader purpose your business might serve, in putting people to work, or transforming a neighborhood.”

Following the address, some guests said they thought the most important message in the president’s speech was on the importance of family. Obama mentioned his continuous challenge to be the best father and husband to his daughters, Malia and Sasha and wife Michelle.

“I still wish I had a father who was not only present, but involved. And so my whole life, I’ve tried to be for Michelle and my girls what my father wasn’t for my mother and me. I’ve tried to be a better husband, a better father, and a better man.

Among the 500 graduates was Genarlow Wilson who spent more than two years in a Douglas County jail fighting a conviction of being a sexual predator. Wilson was released in 2007 when his conviction was overturned. He is now engaged and the father of a 2 month old baby. Wilson works in the Dekalb County Jail.

President Obama was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree during the ceremony.

The commencement was abbreviated because of the stormy weather.

Following the Morehouse graduation, Obama attended a Democratic fundraiser hosted by Arthur Blank and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.

Reality shows like ”Mary Mary” and “The Sheards” are going strong these days. Well, the Oxygen Network will not be outdone. They are putting together a reality show called “The Pastor’s of L.A.” It’s intent is to portray the human side of these pastors and the real world in which they live and work.

It will feature such notable pastors as Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Clarence McClendon, Deitrick Haddon and more. Look for its premier this fall on Oxygen.

Speaking of television, did you see The Pace Sisters last night on OWN. They were on with Iyanla Van Zant to discuss their battle with their weight. Together, they have made a conscious decision to get their lives together by adopting a healthier lifestyle. We wish them much success with their weight loss efforts. Bronner Twins Named Co-Valedictorians For Spelman 2013 Graduation

ATLANTA (WVEE)- Visitors attending the Spelman College 2013 Commencement will be seeing double when the class Valedictorian is announced. Identical twins Kirstie and Kristie Bronner, have been named co-valedictorians for the Spelman College Class of 2013. Each student earned a 4.0 GPA and are the first twins to receive the designation in the history of Spelman.

Kirstie and Kristie Bronner appeared on the Ryan Cameron Morning Show on V-103 FM Friday with their father Bishop Dale C. Bronner on the phone to talk about the honor. Following graduation, Kristie and Kirstie, both music majors, plan to join the youth ministry at their father’s church, Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral in Atlanta.

The young ladies also plan to record a contemporary Christian CD and write a book for high school students about achieving academic success in college and beyond.

The Bronner twins were home schooled and said they had a strict education philosophy while in college: “pay now and play later.” They also said they maintain a strong prayer life everyday.

The sisters are third-generation Spelman graduates. Other women in the family who also graduated from Spelman include their mother, Nina Cobb Bronner, in 1985, and their grandmother, Dorothy Gibson Cobb, in 1956.

Spelman College’s 126th Commencement will be held Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center. The commencement speaker will be U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin, M.D.

President Obama Speaks-Father And Son Graduate From Morehouse College

ATLANTA (WVEE)-History will be made on Sunday at the 129th Morehouse College Commencement.

According to a Morehouse press release, when President Barack Obama takes to the podium Sunday, this will be the very first time a “sitting President has given a May commencement address in Georgia, and the first time in three-quarters of a century that one has delivered any commencement speech in Georgia.” The release says that Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave a summer commencement address at the University of Georgia in 1938.

It will also be a history making day for the Joyner family. Dorian Joyner started Morehouse College in 1984, but it would be 25 years later before he completed his bachelor of arts degree. Dorian Joyner Jr. will now also graduate with his dad.

Dorian Joyner Sr. would have graduated in 1988 but decided to concentrate on building his computer business, get married and start a family. A bout with cancer prevented him from a second chance at graduating — in 2012. Now cancer-free he will walk with his son and hear a commencement address from President Barack Obama.

The icing on the cake is Joyner’s mother, who turns 80 in May, will get to see the last of her children receive their college degree and her first grandchild receive his on the same day.

10,000 people are expected to attend. The commencement is set for 11 a.m. on the Century Campus.

Morehouse College President Dr. John Silvanus Wilson Jr. served under President Obama as executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities before being named the 11^thpresident of Morehouse.

Report: Beyonce And Jay-Z Expecting Second Child

Beyonce and Jay-Z are expecting their second child, according to an E! Online report. The entertainment network claims that “multiple sources exclusively confirm[ed]” the story earlier. All sources in the story are unnamed.

A pregnancy might explain the singer’s recent cancellation of a show in Antwerp, Belgium on Tuesday due to “dehydration and exhaustion.” This came after fans and pundits spotted what they believed was a baby bump in photos of her appearance earlier this month at the Met Gala.

If this news proves to be true, the future of Beyonce’s North American leg of her current Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, which comes stateside on June 28 in Los Angeles and wraps August 5 in Brooklyn, might be in question.

Candice Glover Crowned New ‘American Idol’ As Finale Ratings Hit All-Time Low

Last night’s two-hour American Idol finale brought out the star power, but in the end it was Candice Glover’s night. The first all-female AI finale in nine years and first female winner in six years, Candice Glover (as well as her competitor Kree Harrison) alternated performances with some of the biggest stars in music before Glover closed the show with her powerful vocals as she held back tears to sing her new single “I Am Beautiful.”

“Persistence, determination and a lot of talent. You deserve it,” Ryan Seacrest told Glover, who auditioned for AI twice before her win this season.

Meanwhile, the judges showed off their powerhouse singing with former contestants. Keith Urban‘s new single “Little Bit of Everything” made its television premiere, while Mariah Carey brought us back to the ’90s with a montage of her hits, complete with a wind-blown look. Even former AI judge Jennifer Lopez took the stage with Pitbull for their clubtastic summer jam “Live It Up.” Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, PSY, Jessie J, Travis Barker, The Band Perry, Aretha Franklin, and Frankie Valli also took the Idol stage.

Despite the A-list performers, the Season 12 finale didn’t rack up the numbers. According to Deadline, the two-hour finale last night was down 47 percent from last season’s finale. Idol pulled in 13.61 million viewers last night — 8 million less than the 21.5 million who watched last season’s finale. Season 12 is the first Idol finale to have less than 20 million viewers.

Additionally, the New York Daily News reports that Idol season 12 ratings suffered a 20 percent drop overall compared to season 11 ratings. “While Idol drew a staggering 30 million viewers during its peak in 2006 and ’07, that number withered this year to roughly 12 million,” the paper notes.

With Randy Jackson jumping ship after 12 seasons and the continuous judge changes, nothing seems to be able to revive the ratings.
