On The Couch At A Therapy Session With Jay-Z: The Ryan Report

It would be easy to assume that nothing could be wrong with The Carters.

After all, one half of the power couple is Beyonce – arguably one of the most popular entertainers on the globe. The other half is Jay-Z, arguably one of the most respected and influential forces in hip-hop, period.

But since a certain elevator video surfaced, cracks in that veneer have revealed themselves. And like true artists, they have crafted those vulnerabilities into entry points to some of the most personal, engaging works of their careers.

The latest example being Jay-Z sharing in one of his “Footnotes” videos about his “4:44” CD  that not only has he been in therapy for a long time, but the trouble he’s had with it.

“I don’t think I was ready for it,” he said of the earlier sessions, part of his probation for stabbing a fellow music executive. “That level of getting to know yourself, that’s the most difficult thing to do.

“It’s easy to get to know other people,” continued Jay-Z, “like, get to know yourself. And like, really like know yourself and really ask yourself the question you don’t want to hear.”
