There’s still no word on when (or if) Cash Money Records will ever release Lil Wayne’s long anticipated Tha Carter V, but the rapper did share that he’s got another new album coming very soon. While stopping by The Nine Club podcast, he shared that his new project Funeral was on its way, although he didn’t have a release date yet.
Besides announcing that new project, Lil Wayne promised there’s lots more to come in 2017. “I have a whole bunch of good news coming soon. If you are a Wayne fan–I know we’ve been going through a lot of tough times right now–but if you a Wayne fan we’re about to hold our heads high,” he said.
Lil Wayne has been appearing as a featured artist on several tracks recently, including Kiiara’s “Gold” remix and Young Jeezy’s track “Bout That,” but he’s incurred great difficulty releasing original music because of the contract issues he’s had with Cash Money Records and Birdman. It’s unclear whether Funeral will arrive under the Cash Money label or whether Lil Wayne has finally found his way out from his contract woes, but, no matter the case, new music from the New Orleans rapper is an exciting turn.
