Applause all around for Drake, as even though he has yet to win a single American Music Award – believe it, or not – he now holds the new record for the most American Music Award (AMA) nominations.
That’s right, the King of Pop’s “Thriller” scored 11 AMA nominations in 1984 (of which he won eight). But this year Drake will contend for 13, including: Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Album, Favorite Rap Artist, Favorite Rap Song and Favorite R&B song.
Now here’s what’s funny – guess who could take home the night’s second highest haul? Drake’s rumored off-an-on love Rihanna, who has seven nominations. And in case you were wondering, Adele and Justin Bieber have five each. (“Disprespectful!” Tigger declared.)
All of the winners will be announced Nov. 20. (But again, congratulations already seem to be in order for the rapper/singer born Aubrey Drake Graham.)
