Hurricane Matthew Threatens Coastal Residents Told To Get Prepared Now: Maria Boynton Reports

As Hurricane Matthew hits the Florida coast, officials are warning those along the Georgia coast to get prepared. The fierce storm has already claimed hundreds of lives in Haiti.

The Red Cross says it is preparing its response by mobilizing volunteers from across the state. Several trucks loaded with supplies including shelter kits (cots, blankets, personal hygiene items, and kitchen supplies), clean-up kits and more have been sent south from the Red Cross distribution warehouse in Union City. According to the American Red Cross, if someone is coming to a shelter they should bring any prescription medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, important documents and other comfort items. They should also include any special items for children such as diapers, formula and toys, and items needed by family members with unique needs.
