Mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer in its earlier stages. And yet, 4 of every 10 women don’t get annual mammograms.
SO WHAT’S KEEPING YOU FROM GETTING A MAMMOGRAM?
Maybe you’re worried it will hurt. Maybe you’re worried you will get bad news. Maybe it’s time to talk about your concerns with Grady’s experts.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – so there’s no better time to learn more about mammograms. Join the staff and physicians from Grady’s Avon Breast Center who can answer your questions about mammograms.
WHEN SHOULD YOU BE SCREENED?
Routine breast screenings can take different forms depending on your age and risk factors. The American College of Radiology recommends women begin to have a screening mammogram each year beginning at age 40. For women with a family history of breast cancer, there may be a role for mammography plus additional screening with a breast MRI at a younger age.
If you have any risk factors or abnormal changes in your breasts, discuss these risks or symptoms with your doctor. Then take action.
Men can get breast cancer too. It’s just as important to discuss any changes in your breasts with your doctor.
TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR
If you are over 40 or have a family history of breast cancer, talk with your doctor about scheduling a mammogram – and ask about scheduling your mammogram at Grady.
