Shawty Lo, the well-loved rapper from Atlanta, received a final farewell Saturday. Hundreds of family, friends, and members of the hip-hop community attended funeral services for Bankhead’s own at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church on Fairburn Road.
The 40-year-old, whose real name was Carlos Walker, was killed in a one-car crash early on September 21, when his car hit a guardrail.
Police said that Lo was not wearing a seat belt, and was thrown from his 2016 Audi. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said the official cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Lo was the founder of the group D4L and was the father of 11 children.
About an hour before Saturday’s service was set to begin, one could see there would be a huge turnout, as the parking lot filled quickly. Officers with the Fulton County Police Department were seen reporting for duty prior to the funeral. As of this writing, hundreds of thousands of V-103 Facebook page users, have seen pictures of the activities prior to the funeral. WSB TV reports that as many as 8 million people watched its online stream of the service.
Lo was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, GA.
