YG’s ‘Word is Bond’ Video Gets Lost in Translation

By Amanda Wicks

YG has followed up his trippy music video for “Still Brazy” with something a tad more cheeky. The Compton rapper has released the video for his latest single “Word is Bond” featuring Slim 400, and the clip plays on the idea that some things—including his lyrics—get lost in translation.

The video follows YG and Slim 400 around Tokyo as they trade in the West Coast for the brightly lit Asian city. But even though the location may be different, there are still lots of scantily clad women and big hydraulics to give the video genuine hip-hop flare.

Throughout, Japanese subtitles translate YG’s lyrics. There are also English translations underneath the Japanese subtitles, which offer a more literal and amusing translation. “If I told you I was back/ N—- that’s what it is” translates to “You thought I was gone, but the surprise is we are about to become rich.”

“Everybody know I’m rich,” translates to the much lengthier, “Everyone knows I’m rich, I repeat, everyone in the world knows I’m rich, and I support my friends.”

“Word is Bond” appears on YG’s latest album Still Brazy. Watch the explicit video on Radio.com.
