“It was spontaneous, no one thought it would work,” Diplo said about the decision to bring the track to Bieber.

Bieber can be heard harmonizing with MØ on the song alongside an African guitar and distinct Eastern melodies.

“The timing was perfect and when we approached Justin, he was also in love with the song we all had written,” Diplo added in a press statement. ”

A fan of MØ himself, Diplo raved about the young singer.

“I felt like she was so ambiguous, having grown up singing pop and punk. Her word choice and her metaphors are just so foreign from American songwriters who tend to overuse the same phrases,” he told Rolling Stone.

“When I heard ‘Cold Water’ for the first time I actually got very emotional—it was one of those songs that just hit you immediately and I knew from that moment that I would jump into a volcano to be a part of that record (and I actually recorded my parts in Iceland so a volcano dive was not far from realistic),” added MØ in a statement. “One thing is the songwriting being exquisite, but that combined with Major Lazer’s unique sound is to me a match made in music heaven.”
