A judge sets bond at $240,000 for a former Atlanta police officer charged with felony murder in the death of 22 year old Caine Rogers. James Burns was fired from the APD last month, two weeks after the June 22 shooting. It happened, according to prosecutors, as Burns searched for a car burglary suspect at the Monroe Place Apartments near Monroe Drive in northeast Atlanta. A police report indicates that Burns admitted to having shot into a car at Rogers without knowing if he was the person that police were looking for.
James Burns (l) was indicted on 5 charges, including murder, in the June 22, 2016 death of Caine Rogers (r). (APD and the Rogers family)
