ScHoolboy Q released the third installment of his short film today (July 11). In “Black THougHts (Pt. 3),” worlds collide as the rapper and the prisoner he might have become merge in a visually enticing narrative.
After being mistakenly arrested for a crime he didn’t commit in Pt. 2, ScHoolboy Q faces 16 years in prison. It’s a deal his lawyer approves considering the charges he’s up against, but he knows the ripple effect it will have on his daughter.
As he contemplates his life as a prisoner, the camera cuts to ScHoolboy Q the rapper sitting outside a massive estate dressed in casual attire. When he enters his mansion, the two narratives visually intersect. He wanders a hallway where each room has been turned into a jail cell. Things get especially heavy when walks his daughter to a school bus, which immediately turns into a prison transport bus with the prisoner version of himself on board.
“Most of us caught before we can expend our thoughts,” he raps before encouraging listeners to choose a different path. “Let’s put the rags down and raise our kids/ Let’s put the guns down and blaze a spliff,” he raps in the smooth track “Black THougHts.”
