The Atlanta Streetcar is still rolling. In May, the Georgia Department of Transportation threatened to close down the streetcar. It cited the City of Atlanta’s failure to “provide timely, substantive and compliant responses” to the agency’s concerns. The concerns included inadequate staffing, poor maintenance, and failure to properly investigate accidents. Tuesday, the city received a letter from the GDOT indicating that the agency was withdrawing the threat to shut down the Atlanta Streetcar. Commissioner Russell McMurry communicated that the agency was satisfied with Atlanta’s recent progress.
