Atlanta Police Shoot, Kill Suspected Car Thief

The GBI is investigating after an Atlanta police officer shoots and kills a man who was suspected of trying to break into cars.

It happened overnight at an apartment complex near Monroe Drive in northeast Atlanta. Police say an off-duty officer, who lives in the area, chased the man and called for backup. Authorities also reportedly say that the suspect tried to get away in a vehicle, and that an on-duty officer, feeling threatened, shot the man. He was struck in the head. The car he was driving crashed into a parked SUV. Reports indicate that the dead man was 22 years old.
