“Long Live The King – Even Though His Name Is Prince” – V-103 Remembers An Icon

Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish that life was never ending,
But all good things, they say, never last

The news had just been confirmed minutes before Big Tigger was due on the air, and immediately, this April 21, this album track came to mind.

“I know it probably isn’t the first Prince song people think of, but it just seemed appropriate.”

So it was with “Sometimes It Snows In April” that he started his show.

Musical icon Prince passed away from still-unknown circumstances today, at 57 – exactly a week after he performed his last two official shows in Atlanta.

Seemingly every station in the city stopped by to talk to V-103 personalities, but here’s where they get personal.

Ryan, Wanda, Ramona, Tigger and Greg are sharing their favorite songs and lyrics. (Yes even Mr. 6:00 got sentimental).

“How many bars do I get here?” began Cameron, one of the two personalities who actually spent personal time with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, on three occasions.

“Favorite lyric: ‘Dorothy was a waitress on the promenade/She worked the night shift/Dishwater blonde, tall and fine/ She got a lot of tips’ “

“My favorite Prince song off the top is ‘Starfish and Coffee,’ he continued, “but songs like ‘Irresistible [Expletive] and ‘She’s Always In My Hair’ really have memories attached to them; because that’s when I started really getting into him, back in college.”

” ‘International Lover’ immediately came to mind to Wanda Smith, because when she was an aspiring comedian back in her native Miami, “they would play that song over and over and the crowd would just GO UP!”

Ramona DeBreaux didn’t make it to the Fox Theater shows last week, but got an invitation backstage when Prince was at the Tabernacle. “I’ll never forget he singled me out, and called me ‘The Pretty DJ.’ ”

Her favorite single? It’s a tie between “I Would Die 4 U” and “Diamonds and Pearls.” ” ‘I Would Die 4 U’ because that’s how he ended ‘Purple Rain.’ But the singing on ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ was what killed me. That vocalist he had on there – Rosie Gaines – KILLER!”

Tigger was JUST saying on the air last week that if he ever got a chance to meet Prince he would only have one question for him: What’s the meaning behind “Starfish and Coffee”?

“That’s my favorite Prince song and I have absolutely no idea what it means!”

Greg’s favorite lyric is, well, pretty clear: “Do Me, Baby.” And all day long he’s been looking for his favorite Prince song – “Still Waiting.”

“All of these mixes, all of these tributes, all of his music has been playing all day long and I haven’t once heard THAT!”

The sweet guitar ballad is from Prince’s 1979 self-titled second album – one of the 17 albums and 88 tracks Tigger pulled up on his iTunes earlier today.

“Mannnnn, long live The King,” Tigger declared, “even though his name is Prince.”
