Protest Against Bill Cosby In Atlanta, Led By Attorney Gloria Allred

The thousands of Bill Cosby fans that are pouring into the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center tonight are being met by protesters, led by attorney Gloria Allred. Also among the protesters, Lili Bernard, who claims to have been sexually assaulted by Cosby during the time in which she had a role on The Cosby Show, which aired on the NBC television network from 1984-1992. According to Bernard, Cosby drugged and raped her. She says it happened in the early 1990s in New Jersey. That state has no statute of limitations on rape. Bernard and Allred want Cosby prosecuted. More than 40 women have come forward accusing Cosby of assaulting them. Allred represents 17 of those women.

Copies of a 15-page “Cosby Report” were distributed. It includes the names of the alleged victim, their age at the time of the alleged assault, along with details of what they say Cosby did to them. The “Report” also includes the name of the alleged offender “William Henry Cosby, Jr.”and his age when each alleged incident occurred. The allegations date back to 1965, with the most recent, included in the “Report”, being 1988.

The Thompson family from Florida are also in Atlanta tonight. Their now 44-year-old daughter Kaya claims to have been sexually assaulted by Cosby in 1988 when she was 17. She says that she was the “Jane Doe #2” in the allegations against the comedian. The Thompsons wore t-shirts that read “Our Daughter Survived Bill Cosby 1988 NYC”.

The protest was organized by Brandy Betts and the members of Care2. NOW (National Organization for Women) Georgia president Jackie Rodriguez was also among the protesters. The press release announcing the gathering said that “a group of survivors and their allies will be staging a large-scale, peaceful, protest at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre to demonstrate support for the dozens of survivors of Bill Cosby and for sexual assault victims everywhere”.

The protesters said that calls to the event center “asking them to cancel Cosby’s show have failed.”
They promised to confront Cosby inside the venue interrupting his show “frequently and repeatedly”. Allred said it would be quite different from interruptions that Cosby encountered at previous shows.

Cosby has denied all of the allegations.
