The Pick: Adidas Super Ape Star
The Date: 2003
The Price: This black, white, “bone” and gold release were never publicly sold, and was limited to only 100 pairs worldwide. (Fifty to Adidas, the other fifty pair going to Tomoaki Nagao (a.k.a. Nigo), who started A Bathing Ape (BAPE).
The Look: Black premium suede upper, black leather stripes, off-white “bone” shell and sole. Gold detailing for both the BAPE and Adidas Originals branding throughout the shoe. The bonus: embossed gorilla logos pressed into the gold lace tips.
The Reason: With only 100 pairs made these will surely be high on many Adidas superstar fans’ ‘Grail’ lists. I’m happy to have this pair in my collection.
