Last night at the American Music Awards, Rihanna was presented with the first ever “Icon Award”!

Great, I know; but that hairstyle was far from iconic.

She was rockin’ a DOOBIE!

“Doobie” originated in the Dominican beauty salons where they would brush a woman’s hair around in a circular motion and insert bobby pins to hold the hair in place. It became popular among black women in the ’90, adopted the addendum “wrap”, and continues to be used as a prep method.

So in so many words: “Girl, Rihanna showed up at the awards show with her hair wrapped!”

Now ladies, I know many of us have copied a Rihanna trend or two – this is not the one to try! No one wants you at work with a wrap and bobby pins. And if your boss is black or knowledgeable of the culture, you’ll be written up – SURELY!

With millions in the bank, Rihanna can do just about anything. But if you punch in and out, go comb your damn hair!
