Lupe Fiasco, who has spoken out against gun violence in the past, has just dropped a tribute song to Jonylah Watkins, the six-month-old girl who was shot 5 times in Southside Chicago while her dad was changing her diaper in a minivan.
The song, titled “Jonylah Forever” is produced by Soundtrakk and imagines what would have happened if Jonylah had lived, grown up and become a doctor that worked in the innercity and eventually saved a life of a chile that was shot.
“And that’s where you heard the shots and quickly ran outside/ And saw a man and a van and a bleeding baby in his hands/ Fading fast but you knew she could survive/ Did everything you could to try and keep this girl alive/ Stabilized until the ambulance arrived/ In that moment where you gave your help but you didn’t even know that you saved yourself”
Listen to “Jonylah Forever,” here.
Fiasco, a native of Chicago, announced the song titled “Jonylah Forever” via Twitter on Friday (March 15). Lupe also left us with a short message: “Not a song but a life. Be respectful. Please keep negative comments to yourself. #lovelifechitownforever”
