(Washington, DC) — President Obama has rolled out a sweeping series of gun safety proposals, in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

Obama urged Congress yesterday to pass legislation requiring “universal background checks” for gun purchases, ban military-style assault weapons, and limit ammunition clips.

He also signed 23 executive actions aimed at curbing gun violence.

The National Rifle Association says President Obama’s gun control proposals aren’t solutions to reducing gun violence across the country.

The NRA says putting at least one armed guard in every school in the U.S. would be an effective way to protect youngsters from a tragedy like the recent mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
