The gospel community is mourning the loss of gospel legend Inez Andrews. She passed away on December 19th at her home in Chicago. She was 83. She was known for her outstanding lead vocals on many of the hits by The Caravans.
Larry Tinsley had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Andrews many years ago backstage following a performance on Brother Esmond Patterson’s anniversary celebration. They talked about the early days of gospel music when she and The Caravans traveled across the county by car, staying in rooming houses because they could not stay in the “white hotels” or eat at the “white restaurants.” They also remembered drinking from “colored only” water fountains.
She was an elegant lady, filled with so much talent and loved to sing the glory of God. To hear more about this iconic singer, click on the link below.
