Stay Safe On The Roads Over The Holiday

Georgia State Troopers are looking for suspected drunk drivers over the holiday season. Troopers have announced they will step up patrols on surrounding highways through January 1.

Col. Mark McDonough the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety says police will be looking for drunk drivers or those driving under the influence, passengers and driver who are not wearing seat belts and speeders.

Last year over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel season authorities say they investigated over 500 accidents that left more than 350  people injured.

State patrol officials say this year’s Christmas travel period officially began at 6 p.m. Dec. 21 and ends the night of Dec. 25.

The New Year’s holiday travel period begins Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. and ends the night of Jan. 1.
