In response to fellow pugilist Manny Pacquiao’s attack on gay marriage, Mayweather, Jr. followed President Barack Obama and Jay-Z in support of same-sex unions.
“I support gay marriage. Period,” he told the afternoon personality. “I’m standing behind Barack Obama.
Everybody’s entitled to do what they want to do and live their life like they want to live their life.
Let people live their life like they want to live it. To each his own.
Then he matter-of-factly discussed having to go to prison June 1 after pleading guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges.
“Martin Luther King’s been locked up. Malcolm X [has] been locked up. A lot of black heroes have been locked up. Muhammad Ali’s been locked up. It comes with the territory. Basically. You know, you live and you learn. And only the strong survive. I’m happy to be free; right now.”
And apparently he had more immediately pressing things on his mind right now, as before he and his studio full of “staff members” left for tonight’s victory party at Diamonds of Atlanta, he revealed this: “A lot of people dont know – I want everybody to of course tweet my best friend – cause he’s in the hospital right now. 50 cent is in the hospital at this particular time. He’s extremely sick. But you know, we keep our fingers crossed and only hope for the best…And hopefully he gets better.”
