An MRI confirms the initial diagnosis of tendinitis in Joe Johnson’s left knee and the Atlanta Hawks say their veteran guard will sit out Sunday’s All-Star game. Johnson leads the Hawks in scoring at 17.6 points a game and was named to the All-Star team for the sixth year in a row.
He’ll be re-evaluated after the break.
NBA Commissioner David Stern named Boston guard Rajon Rondo to replace Johnson on the Eastern Conference All-Star roster.
Following the announcement Hawks’ coach Larry Drew said that he was disappointed that Commissioner Stern didn’t select Atlanta forward Josh Smith to replace Johnson.
